Pasadena to Host Olympic Soccer at Rose Bowl Stadium for LA28
The City of Pasadena has officially partnered with the organizers of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, ensuring that Olympic soccer will be played at the renowned Rose Bowl Stadium. This historic venue will feature both men’s and women’s semifinal and final matches during the Los Angeles-hosted games.
A Historic Venue
LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover highlighted the significance of the Rose Bowl, stating that it will become only the second venue globally to host events across three separate Olympic Games. Previously, the stadium served as a site for track cycling during the 1932 Olympics and soccer in 1984, with the latter’s gold medal match drawing over 100,000 spectators.
City Officials’ Statements
“Pasadena is proud to be a Venue City supporting the Host City of Los Angeles for the 2028 Games,” remarked Pasadena Mayor Victor M. Gordo in a news release. He expressed enthusiasm about welcoming visitors from around the world to the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium.
Agreement Details
The agreement delineates the responsibilities between the LA28 Organizing Committee and Pasadena, although final approval from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board is still required. Further agreements are expected to be finalized by October 2027.
Community Impact and Future Events
Jens Weiden, CEO of Rose Bowl Stadium, referred to the venue as “America’s Stadium,” emphasizing that the LA28 Games will have a positive impact on the Southern California community. Officials anticipate a significant influx of tourism in Pasadena due to the Olympic events.
Other Olympians Venues in the Region
Los Angeles County will host various other events, with some sports relocating to new venues. Notable changes include:
- Basketball at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood
- Swimming at SoFi Stadium and Crypto.com Arena in downtown L.A.
- Gymnastics at Crypto.com Arena
- Lacrosse and flag football at BMO Stadium
Additional Olympic Sports
The 2028 Games will also see the return of Olympic softball and canoe slalom, with these events slated to take place in Oklahoma City.
Rose Bowl’s Future Events
Apart from the 2028 Olympics, the Rose Bowl is confirmed to host matches during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. However, it was not selected as a venue for the FIFA World Cup scheduled for 2026, although SoFi Stadium will serve as a host site for that event.
