Anjelica Huston Opens Up About Her Battle with Cancer
Oscar-winning actress Anjelica Huston has recently shared her personal experience of battling cancer, a struggle she faced in 2019. Now, four years later, she is proud to announce that she is cancer-free.
A Life-Changing Diagnosis
In an exclusive interview with People magazine, the 73-year-old actress revealed that her diagnosis came shortly after the release of her film, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Although she chose not to disclose the specific type of cancer, Huston described it as a “very serious moment” in her life. “I managed to survive it, and I’m proud of myself,” she said.
Sharing Her Journey
After keeping her health issues private for several years, Huston felt compelled to share her story to inspire others facing similar challenges. “Sometimes you feel like you don’t want to talk about it for the obvious reasons, but there’s a lot to be said for talking about it and getting it out there and celebrating the fact that one’s come through,” she explained.
Reflecting on the impact of her diagnosis, Huston stated, “It came as a big shock, but it made me conscious of what I shouldn’t do, of places I shouldn’t go. One of those places was taking life too seriously.” Now, she embraces laughter and values the lighter moments in life.
The Joy of Being Cancer-Free
Upon receiving the news of her cancer-free status, Huston took a moment to appreciate the simple joys around her. “I just walked in my garden and smelled the roses and thought how clever I was,” she recalled. Achieving the four-year milestone in her recovery holds significant meaning for Huston. “It’s a fantastic thing. I’m very proud of myself, and I’ve been very lucky. My doctors have been wonderful,” she noted.
A Legacy of Talent
Huston comes from a distinguished lineage in the film industry; she is the daughter of acclaimed director John Huston and the granddaughter of actor Walter Huston. Anjelica received an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1985 film Prizzi’s Honor. She has also garnered recognition for her memorable performances as Morticia Addams in the Addams Family films and as the Grand High Witch in The Witches.
Continuing Her Acting Career
Despite her health challenges, Huston remains active in the entertainment industry. She is set to portray Lady Tressilian in the upcoming BritBox limited series Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero, scheduled to premiere on April 16. The actress humorously remarked, “I loved playing from bed. It was very relaxing and wonderfully undemanding. I’ve always liked bed anyway. It’s one of my preferences and now I’m convinced, absolutely. It’s almost a prerequisite.”
