Apple TV+ has announced a new original series starring Jennifer Aniston, inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s bestselling memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. The 10-episode dramedy will delve into the complexities of child stardom and familial relationships, with Aniston portraying a character navigating the challenges of fame and personal growth.
The series will explore the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit children’s show and her narcissistic mother, who relishes her identity as a starlet’s parent. Aniston will play the fictionalized version of McCurdy’s overbearing mother, bringing depth to the role that examines the darker aspects of parent-child dynamics in the entertainment industry.
McCurdy, known for her role as Sam Puckett on Nickelodeon’s iCarly, has been candid about her experiences as a child star and the pressures she faced from her mother, who passed away in 2013. Her memoir, published in August 2022, became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and has sold over three million copies as of July 2025.
In addition to starring, Aniston will serve as an executive producer on the series, alongside McCurdy, who will also take on writing and showrunning duties with Ari Katcher. Other executive producers include Sharon Horgan, Tom Ackerley, and Jerrod Carmichael, bringing together a team with a strong background in both comedy and drama.
This project marks another collaboration between Aniston and Apple TV+, following her role in the acclaimed series The Morning Show, which is set to return for its fourth season on September 17, 2025.
The upcoming series is expected to provide a nuanced portrayal of the challenges faced by young performers and the impact of parental influence on their careers and personal development. With a blend of humor and emotional depth, the show aims to resonate with audiences by shedding light on the often unseen struggles behind the scenes of child stardom.
