Tesla’s Cybertruck Faces Massive Recall Due to Safety Risks

In a significant move, U.S. safety regulators have announced a recall affecting the vast majority of Cybertruck vehicles currently in operation. This marks the eighth recall for these Tesla-manufactured trucks since customer deliveries commenced just over a year ago.

Details of the Recall

The recall, instigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), encompasses approximately 46,096 Cybertrucks. The primary issue identified lies with an exterior panel known as the cant rail assembly, located between the windshield and the roof on both sides. It has been reported that this panel could potentially detach while the vehicle is in motion, posing a significant hazard to other motorists and increasing the likelihood of accidents.

The NHTSA’s report indicates that the cant rail assembly is secured with a structural adhesive. To address this concern, Tesla plans to utilize a stronger adhesive that has not shown susceptibility to “environmental embrittlement,” along with additional reinforcements to enhance safety.

Owner Notification and Timeline

Tesla is committed to rectifying this issue at no cost to vehicle owners. Notifications to Cybertruck owners are expected to be dispatched by May 19, 2025.

Scope of the Recall

This recall applies to all 2024 and 2025 model year Cybertrucks that were manufactured between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2025. The NHTSA reports that Tesla became aware of this defect earlier this year, leading to the current recall action.

Context of Recent Events

Public reactions, including viral videos on social media, have surfaced, showcasing individuals effortlessly detaching the panels from Cybertrucks. Despite these alarming incidents, no injuries have been reported as a result of this specific issue.

The recall occurs amidst a backdrop of challenges for Tesla, which has faced several safety-related recalls for various issues over the last 15 months. Notable past recalls include a fault in an electric inverter causing potential power loss to drive wheels, issues with acceleration pedals sticking due to interior trim interference, and problems with windshield wipers and display screens.

Concerns Widen Beyond Recalls

In addition to safety concerns, Tesla has recently encountered troubling incidents involving vandalism against its showrooms and vehicles. For example, prosecutors in Colorado have charged an individual with launching attacks on Tesla dealerships, including throwing Molotov cocktails and spray-painting derogatory phrases. Additionally, a separate incident in South Carolina led to the arrest of a man accused of setting fire to charging stations, accompanied by writings critical of the government.

Despite attempts to navigate these challenges, Tesla continues to encounter stiff competition from emerging electric vehicle manufacturers, particularly those based in China. The stock performance reflects this precarious situation, with Tesla shares plummeting by 42% in 2025 amid growing sales anxiety globally.

Contact Information for Owners

Cybertruck owners with concerns are urged to reach out to Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236. For further details, individuals can also visit NHTSA’s official website.
