Smokey Robinson Denies Allegations Following Civil Lawsuit
Motown icon Smokey Robinson is facing serious allegations from four former employees, all women, who have filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of multiple charges, including sexual battery and creating a hostile work environment.
Overview of the Allegations
According to the lawsuit, which was announced on Tuesday, the plaintiffs claim that Robinson engaged in inappropriate behavior that included unsolicited sexual contact. They assert that these incidents spanned from 2007 until April 2024, occurring while they were employed as housekeepers at his residence in Chatsworth.
- Charges include sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, and gender violence.
- The plaintiffs are seeking $50 million in damages.
- Specific allegations describe instances of forceful touching of various body parts without consent.
Robinson’s Response
The 85-year-old singer expressed his shock over the allegations through a statement to the Daily Mail, stating he is “appalled” by the claims. However, he refrained from elaborating further.
His legal representative, Christopher Frost, characterized the accusations as “false” and “vile.” In a statement to KTLA, he criticized the press conference held by Robinson’s accusers, terming it a “media circus.”
Legal Proceedings
Frost indicated that the defense team intends to request the court to dismiss the lawsuit, citing numerous inconsistencies in the complaint, including questions surrounding timelines and the relationships between the plaintiffs and other involved parties. He urged the public to withhold judgment until all evidence is disclosed.
“We will have more to say on this matter, as we fiercely defend our clients against these false allegations and work to protect their good names,” Frost added.
No Criminal Charges Filed
As of now, it is essential to note that no criminal charges have been filed against Smokey Robinson in relation to these allegations.
