Community Mourns Loss of Young Mother in Fullerton Crash
On April 12, tragedy struck in Fullerton when a fatal accident claimed the life of 21-year-old Angy Velasquez. Loved ones are grappling with her abrupt loss, emphasizing her vibrant spirit and the impact she had on everyone around her.
The Incident
At approximately 6:48 a.m., Velasquez was a passenger in the Tesla sedan driven by her boyfriend. As they traveled west on Orangethorpe Avenue, the vehicle reportedly ran a red light at the intersection with South State College Boulevard. In a devastating sequence of events, the speeding car collided with a Toyota truck before crashing head-on into an Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA) bus.
Velasquez died instantly from the impact. Her boyfriend, whose identity is currently withheld pending notification of his family, was hospitalized but tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Remembering Angy Velasquez
“Angy had just turned 21,” said family friend Stephanya Cabanas. “She was so young, so beautiful, so bright.” Velasquez was also a devoted mother to a 5-year-old son, adding another layer of heartbreak to her untimely passing.
Cabanas expressed the profound sadness felt by those who knew Velasquez: “She had so much to live for. It’s just unfortunate because now her son won’t be able to see his mother grow with him. This loss is devastating for all of us.”
Community Support
In the wake of this tragedy, the community has rallied together to support Velasquez’s family. Following the loss of both Velasquez and her grandmother, friends and relatives are determined to ensure her son receives the care he needs during this challenging time.
On May 3, a fundraiser was organized in Santa Ana, aimed at covering funeral expenses and providing support to Velasquez’s family. Cabanas reassured that, while the loss is significant, Velasquez’s son is surrounded by a large, supportive family.
“Everybody’s just trying to support her family,” Cabanas remarked. “She has a big support system. Her son is in very good hands as we all come together during this difficult period.”
Another fundraising event is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, at a residence located at 813 Plymouth Place in Anaheim, where food will be provided in memory of Velasquez.
