Tragic Accident: 12-Year-Old Boy Injured in Parking Lot Shooting
A 12-year-old boy is currently in critical condition following an unintended shooting incident that occurred in a parking lot in Ontario, San Bernardino County, on Friday afternoon.
Incident Overview
Ontario Police responded to emergency calls at approximately 4:15 p.m. about a shooting that had just taken place at Veterans Park, located at 1341 East D Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the young victim suffering from a gunshot wound while seated in the rear passenger seat of his family’s car.
Medical Response
In a rapid response, officers applied life-saving measures before transporting the injured boy to a local trauma center. As of late Friday evening, there had been no further updates regarding his condition other than confirmation that he underwent emergency surgery.
Details of the Altercation
The police investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from a verbal confrontation between two adult males in the parking area. During this dispute, both individuals drew firearms and exchanged gunfire. According to Ontario Police, the juvenile victim was an innocent bystander, not involved in the conflict, and was unintentionally struck during the incident.
Suspects Arrested
Authorities identified the suspects as Damian Marquis Berry, age 25, from Victorville, and Anthony Dionte Erwing, age 35, of Los Angeles. Both suspects were taken into custody shortly after the incident.
Ontario Police stated that Berry is currently on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS), while Erwing is on probation in Los Angeles County. The department noted that both have extensive prior criminal records involving violent crimes.
