NEW YORK, June 9, 2025 — After a decade-long hiatus from the Broadway stage, Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress Kristin Chenoweth is set to make a highly anticipated return this fall in the new musical “The Queen of Versailles.” Previews are scheduled to begin on October 8 at the St. James Theatre, with an official opening night slated for November 10.
The production reunites Chenoweth with composer Stephen Schwartz, marking their first Broadway collaboration since the 2003 hit “Wicked,” where Chenoweth originated the role of Glinda. In “The Queen of Versailles,” she will portray Jackie Siegel, a former beauty queen and socialite known for her and her husband David Siegel’s ambitious project to build the largest private residence in America—a 90,000-square-foot mansion in Orlando, Florida, inspired by France’s Palace of Versailles.
The musical is based on Lauren Greenfield’s 2012 documentary of the same name, which chronicled the Siegels’ lavish lifestyle and the challenges they faced during the 2008 financial crisis. F. Murray Abraham, an Academy Award-winning actor, will co-star as David Siegel.
Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden, the production features a book by Lindsey Ferrentino and choreography by Lauren Yalango-Grant and Christopher Cree Grant. The creative team also includes costume designer Christian Cowan, lighting designer Natasha Katz, set designer Dane Laffrey, and sound designer Peter Hylenski.
Chenoweth, who is also a co-producer of the show through her company Diva Worldwide Entertainment, has described her role as Jackie Siegel as a significant departure from her previous work. In a recent interview, she cautioned fans that the character is “very different” and encouraged audiences to approach the performance with an open mind.
“The Queen of Versailles” had its world premiere at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre in the summer of 2024, where it received positive reviews. Critics praised Chenoweth’s performance, noting it as one of her richest opportunities to showcase her dramatic range. The Boston run also featured Melody Butiu as Sofia, Nina White as Victoria Siegel, Stephen DeRosa as John, Greg Hildreth as Gary, Tatum Grace Hopkins as Jonquil, and Isabel Keating as Debbie.
Tickets for the Broadway run are now on sale, with group sales available through Broadway Inbound. A red-carpet celebration is scheduled for November 9, the day before the show’s official opening.
