by LA Highlights Contributor

On Sunday, July 6, 2025, Angelenos embraced National Fried Chicken Day with gusto, as restaurants across the city served up special deals and events celebrating one of America’s most beloved comfort foods. From fast-food chains to upscale eateries, the day highlighted Los Angeles’s diverse culinary scene and the enduring popularity of fried chicken.

National chains offered enticing promotions to mark the occasion. Shake Shack provided customers with a free Chicken Shack sandwich with any $10 purchase, available every Sunday in July through the promo code “CHICKENSUNDAY” via their app or website. Burger King joined the festivities by offering Royal Perks members a free Royal Crispy Chicken Sandwich with a $1 purchase on July 6, encouraging fans to indulge in their crispy offerings.

Other national chains also participated. Church’s Texas Chicken rewarded loyalty members with a free two-piece leg and thigh with any purchase, while Bonchon offered $5 off online orders of $15 or more from July 4 to 6 using the code “GET5OFF.” Jollibee, the Filipino fast-food favorite, provided new rewards members two free pieces of Chickenjoy with every 10-piece bucket order from July 4 to 10.

Local establishments also showcased their culinary creativity. Uchi in West Hollywood offered a luxurious twist with their “Karaage Meets Caviar” dish—crispy chicken karaage topped with brown butter, maple, crème fraîche, chives, and an ounce of Paddlefish caviar, available from July 6 to 18. Chimmelier, a Korean fried chicken joint in Koreatown, attracted patrons with its signature double-fried chicken and unique sauces, reflecting the city’s rich cultural tapestry.

Beyond restaurant promotions, many Los Angeles residents celebrated by hosting backyard cookouts and potlucks, sharing family recipes and embracing the communal spirit of the day. The celebration underscored fried chicken’s role as a unifying dish, bringing together diverse communities through shared culinary traditions.

National Fried Chicken Day, though unofficial, has become a significant event in the American food calendar, with its origins tracing back to the 1830s. The dish itself has deep roots, influenced by Scottish frying techniques and West African seasoning traditions, evolving into the Southern staple known today.

As Los Angeles continues to embrace its multicultural identity, events like National Fried Chicken Day highlight the city’s dynamic food scene and the enduring appeal of comfort foods that transcend cultural boundaries.
