by LA Highlights Contributor

On September 17, 2025, communities across the United States marked Constitution Day, celebrating the 238th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution. This day is a momentous occasion for reflecting on the foundational principles that shape the country’s democracy. Across the nation, cities and towns took part in special observances and educational activities to honor this historic document and its enduring significance.

In Big Rapids, Michigan, the celebration was highlighted by a proclamation from Mayor Fred Guenther, who officially declared the week of September 17-23 as Constitution Week during a City Commission meeting. The proclamation, presented to members of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), underscored the importance of honoring the U.S. Constitution. Liz LaBatt, a member of the DAR, shared the organization’s ongoing efforts to promote civic education. Throughout Constitution Week, the DAR distributes copies of the Constitution to high school seniors and sets up educational displays in local libraries to encourage deeper understanding of the document’s historical context and its impact on American society.

Similarly, in Richland, Washington, Mayor Theresa Richardson issued a proclamation declaring the week of September 17-23 as Constitution Week. This observance coincided with the 238th anniversary of the drafting of the U.S. Constitution, celebrated nationally on Constitution Day, September 17, 2025. The week-long festivities aimed to engage the local community in discussions about the Constitution’s lasting influence on American law and governance.
